What can you do if your ex stops child contact?

If your ex stops contact because they have some concerns, as the child does not want to have contact with you. You are able to make an application to court for a Child Arrangements Order using a C100 form:

To do this you must already have PR or Parental Responsibility.

You will get PR automatically if you were married to your ex, or if you sign the register when the baby is registered, and your name is put on the birth certificate. If you have neither of these the application is slightly trickier as you must ask for permission from the court to make the application.

It is also possible to make an application for a Parental Responsibility Order, using:

If you are awarded a Child Arrangements Order, if contact has been agreed by the court, your ex should allow the contact to take place and facilitate contact if he/she does not, you can make another application to court using a C79 form,

This is to ask the court to enforce the order, if the resident parent still refuses to facilitate contact, the court are within their powers to charge him/her with contempt of court, which could lead to a fine or even a custodial sentence; however this power in reality rarely used.
